what's the major difference between X3R and X3TC??
I am hard working on X3R right now and haven't tried the X3TC yet. It appears to me that the X3TC and X3R are pretty much alike in terms of universe map, ships and graphics, etc..., though released as two separate standalone games. computer X3TC is based on X3Re+XTM. So they may be alike on many terms.

X3TC has better graphic and that means you need a MUCH, and I mean MUCH, more powerful computer to run X3TC smoothly. THe X3TC is basically X3:R + part of XTM with some new contents. It also has a new mission system making finding and doing missions a lot easier. It has many new weapons and in my opinion, the effects are better than X3:R.
However, as X3R has a much longer history than X3TC, mods available to X3R are much more than that of X3TC. much better pc? seriously?

The requirements is much higher due to poor optimization.
Take my old computer as an example:
Pentium D 915 2.8GHz
Windows XP
1GB DDR2 667 RAM
Geforce 7600GS 256MB.
I can play X3:R in 1280x1024 with 4xAA and highest setting, and maintain a good framerate of at least 30
However, I cannot run X3TC in it in a playable level even in lowest setting, it is at maximum less than 10fps.
So you see the difference.
Even in my current computer, it stills lag a bit in 1920x1080 with highest setting. thanks for the info. looks like i have to stay with X3R for a while....
