what's the major difference between X3R and X3TC??

I am hard working on X3R right now and haven't tried the X3TC yet. It appears to me that the X3TC and X3R are pretty much alike in terms of universe map, ships and graphics, etc..., though released as two separate standalone games. I've been looking for someone to shed some light. :dizzy:
